Diego Rodriguez debuted as soloist under the prestigious Venezuelan conductor Cesar Lara at age 15, performing Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 1. At age 12, he won his first notable orchestra position for the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and toured with them a year later. As a member of “El Sistema,” Rodriguez has also toured Europe and South America. He has worked alongside accomplished conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Domingo Hindoyan, and Jose Antonio Abreu.
Mr. Rodriguez’s interests are of a wide range, from culinary to formal academic research, having been awarded important prizes in both fields. As a cellist, he was recently awarded 3rd prize at the London International Great Composers Competition performing the Haydn Cello concerto in C major.
After receiving his Bachelor’s in Cello Performance from the University of Memphis, he is currently pursuing a double M.A. degree in orchestral conducting and cello performance under Dr. Simona Barbu.
